Unit B – Quiz Review Sheet
You’ll be tested on all section 2 of Unit B.

Please pay attention to the following things to prepare for your quiz on Thursday, Nov. 27.
 
 
    §       Be able to explain briefly what each of these 5 scientist discovered about
          matter and when they discovered it. (Thomson, Nagaoka, Chadwick, 
          Rutherford, and Democritus.)
§       Know how the periodic table today is organized. (Period, “Group or Family”, Metals and non-metals)
§       What are the noble gases?
§       What is an atomic number and what does that number tell you about the element?
§       Where is the atomic mass number and what is it measured by?
§       Using the periodic table. How can you figure out how many electrons an element has?
§       If every element on the periodic table’s symbol is an abbreviation from it’s name then how can the element gold have a symbol Au and iron have the symbol Fe?
§       Who is known as the “father of chemistry” and why?
§       Who’s view of the structure of an atom is still believed today? How does this compare with Dalton’s view of the structure of an atom?
§       Please read the story of Dimitri Mendeleev. Be able to discuss what breakthrough he had in organizing the periodic table.
